Diner culture did not die completely. But it did lose its central place. The world around it changed. The rise of fast food Fast food chains changed the rules. They were cheaper to scale.They were easier to repeat.They worked well with car travel, suburbs and highways. The customer no longer had to sit down. Food became faster, more standard and more focused on takeaway. Changing cities Diners were closely linked to city life, road travel and working routines. As cities changed, so did eating habits. More people moved to suburbs.More chains opened along roads.More restaurants copied the same efficient model....
